My Doctor is a High Priest
Let me be both clear and rhetorical.
Most doctors are hooked on - and addicted to -
Their own professional status.
They luxuriate in the Deep Fact
That they are... oh blimey!... pro-fes-sion-als.
Yes, they carry their professional Being
Around with them
At all times
And in all places.
But, please, let's not generalise here!
Which doctor?
This doctor.
This particular doctor was deeply affronted
By the fact that a patient (me) knew something (anything)
About his own measly condition.
He was deeply offended
By an (any) expression of my (self)knowledge.
Some history.
Way back then - in the Victorian era,
Doctors were truly the High Priests of society.
They were admired high onto their pedestals.
They even had a higher status
Than those poor old vicars;
As well as being higher than all other cases
Of the Great and the Good.
Yet, despite contrived appearances to the contrary,
These Supreme Professionals still, today,
Display their high-priest natures.
